If you got a brand new Honeycomb tablet like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Lenovo IdeaPad K1 or the Asus Eee Pad Transformer and you wonder which apps you should install on your tablet then this article is for you. There is a lot of buzz on the web regarding the low number of Honeycomb apps and let me tell you there are in fact many apps available for it and their number is increasing everyday. But it’s fair to say that browsing the Market to find tablet optimized apps can be tricky… hopefully Google will make it easier soon but until then let’s have a look at a couple of apps optimized for Honeycomb.
The Dell Streak 7 is an Android tablet from Dell which comes with a smaller form factor than most recent tablets and runs Android Froyo (2.2). Running an OS not designed for tablets has its challenges and many of the Streak 7 owners would love to get a taste of Honeycomb on that device. An official upgrade will most likely never come but if you root your device you will be able to install a custom ROM like HoneyStreak which brings Honeycomb 3.2 to the Dell Streak 7.
Out of the box the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 NVidia Tegra 2 CPU runs at 1GHz which delivers a solid and smooth experience. Some developers thought it could go faster and after seeing a 1.4 GHz overclock (see here) it is now possible to increase the Galaxy Tab 10.1 speed to 1.6 GHz! Netflix is not officially supporting many of the popular Android tablets including the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. While installing a modified Netflix apk file works on other tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, it is not enough to get Netflix to work on the tablet from Asus. Thanks to Mistar Muffin @ XDA there is now a patch available that can be applied on the Asus Eee Pad Transformer to enable Netflix video playback.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is one of the best Android Honeycomb tablet available today, it is thinner and lighter than an iPad 2 and does offer a great end user experience. Some of you may have seen the news on Wednesday that Netflix started to officially support its first Android tablet: the Lenovo IdeaPad K1. This is great but we would love the Netflix app to work on any Android tablet. Thanks to the talented folks @ XDA you can now run Netflix on any Honeycomb tablet and the app was even modded to take advantage of the hardware acceleration and the Honeycomb framework. The Samsung Infuse 4G is a great Android device, it comes with a 4.5 inches Super AMOLED screen, an 8 megapixel camera and runs Froyo (Android 2.2). So far this device is only available on AT&T in the US. lost1 @ XDA released a program that will root your Samsung Infuse 4G and allow you to run custom ROM and customize your device.

We had a chance to get a sneak peek at Honey Tribe Colony Collapse a few months ago and this iOS game has now finally been released. Honey Tribe Colony Collapse plays like a shoot’em up and puts you in control of Corbee a bee in charge of collecting nectar for its colony. This game created by Honey Tribe Studio offers incredible hand drawn graphics, a great soundtrack which evolves with your actions in the game and a simple gameplay. This is quite original and really different from most of the games for iOS or other mobile platforms.
The LG Optimus Back is an Android 2.2 smartphone which comes with a new display technology called NOVA which according to LG is the brightest , clearest and most readable type of display available on the market today. It is also a thin device with a 1GHz CPU and a dedicated GPU, all in all not bad but not the most powerful Android device out there. Luckily the LG Optimus Black is also easy to root. The HTC EVO 3D has been recently released and while we are waiting for a permanent root solution for this device coolbho3000 @ XDA just released a custom kernel which will overclock the HTC EVO 3D to up to 1.8 GHz. This overclock kernel does only require temp root privileges and is offered as a Linux loadable kernel module which is slightly different than the usual custom kernels.
The DFT (Dark Forces Team) recently released a Windows Phone 7 Mango ROM for the HTC HD2, this release had a couple of limitations like no Marketplace access or no ability to side load apps. Skype released an update to their Android application which, in addition to a better looking UI, enables video calling but only for a few Android devices like the Google Nexus S, HTC Desire S, Sony Xperia Neo and Sony Xperia Pro. Thanks to pulser, we now have an unlocked version of Skype 2.0.0.45 which supports many more devices like the HTC EVO 4G, HTC Thunderbolt, Samsung Galaxy S 2 and others.
