Lokifish Marz @ XDA managed to set up his HTC EVO 4G as a desktop computer which means you can hook up your EVO to a LCD display, a keyboard, mouse etc. It’s like a docking station for your EVO! This is possible thanks to CyanogenMod 7 which brought Keyboard and Mouse support and the SavagedZen Kernel which supports HDMI acceleration. This is quite an achievement and while the experience is less out of the box than what the Motorola Atrix 4G provides, it seems more powerful.
The Samsung Galaxy S 2 will be launching pretty soon worldwide but a few lucky developers have been able to get their hands on this new device. The Galaxy S 2 brings some much welcomed improvements like a dual-core CPU, Gingerbread and a bigger 4.3 inches screen. The new TouchWiz 4 user interface has been ripped from the Galaxy S 2 and can now be used on the Samsung Galaxy S and its variants (Captivate).
The Asus Eee Pad Transformer is the latest Android Honeycomb tablet to hit the market at a very attractive price point: $399 and with a twist: a keyboard docking station which transforms the tablet into an Android laptop. It has been out for a few days in the UK and was officially released yesterday in the US. As usual the tablet was rooted even before it was released thanks to Apache14 @ XDA and others like Paul O’Brien. The first custom ROMs started to appear recently so it’s time to root your Asus Eee Pad Transformer tablet.
The ViewSonic G Tablet is a budget friendly Android tablet and it just got even better with a new custom kernel which allows you to boost its CPU speed to 1.4 GHz. This makes the ViewSonic G Tablet faster than the Motorola XOOM and the iPad 2 for example. Now all we can ask for is to have Honeycomb running on the ViewSonic G Tablet ;)
Kyocera just released the Android Froyo (2.2) source code for the Sanyo / Kyocera Zio device, this is a good news for Sprint or Cricket customers. We can now expect custom ROMs to be available soon and of course you will want to jailbreak / root your Sanyo Zio to benefit from any future developments. Check out the instructions after the break.
LooseNapp is an iOS app created by IMF which is a hands free application designed to make it extremely simple to make phone calls on your iPhone while you’re driving (if it is not forbidden in your country!!) or if the characters on the screen are too small. LooseNapp provides a wide array of features to make your phone calls easier, simpler and faster.
Some devices like the HTC HD2 are well known for their ability to run many different OSes, the Palm Pre wasn’t known for that until now as the Chinese WebOS community managed to boot Android on the Palm Pre! This will keep Palm Pre owners busy while we wait for the new HP devices… k3dar @ PreCentral described the process to run Android on the Palm Pre, let’s have a look.
Not our usual news but we viewed the ad made by Brandon Foy for Windows Phone 7 and thought he did a great job. Yes it is a bit long but it nicely showcases some of the Windows Phone 7 apps possibly better than the ads made by Microsoft themselves. The best part is that if 200K viewers watch the ad on YouTube it will be broadcasted on TV. Find out how you can help after the break.
In case you missed it CyanogenMod 7, one of our favorite AOSP Android ROM, has now been officially released for many Android devices (HTC EVO 4G, HTC Desire HD etc.). It brings among other things a stable release of Gingerbread (Android 2.3) with its wealth of improvements as well as WiMax (4G) support on the HTC EVO 4G.
Google Maps provides free turn by turn navigation in the US but not everywhere across the world and some Chinese developers have been able to modify the Google Maps app to offer turn by turn navigation everywhere around the world. This is a fantastic news for those living outside the US as your Android phone can be a great alternative to a standalone GPS device.

Let’s put it this way the update process for Windows Phone 7 didn’t go as planned and many devices are still not able to access it while the carrier and phone manufacturers are testing the update… But there is hope as you can force the NoDo update on your Windows Phone 7 device.
The Notion Ink Adam tablet users have reported a pretty bad battery life for that device and this is in part due to the Phone apps installed on it while they are unnecessary. roebeet @ NotionInkHacks created a firmware update which remove those apps and increase the Notion Ink Adam tablet battery life.

A few weeks back we discussed how to turn off LTE on the HTC Thunderbolt to save your device battery life, while the process was easy it becomes even easier with an app called LTE OnOFF created by Cunning Logic. LTE OnOFF is free and as simple as the other paid apps you can find on the Android Market, it should also work on the Motorola Droid Bionic, Samsung Charge (Stealth) and LG Revolution.

Hulu changed the way we all watch TV and we wish it was possible to watch it on our Android devices but unfortunately it is not possible yet officially. But thanks to imneveral0ne @ XDA and s197, you can now watch Hulu on your HTC Thunderbolt and also on other Android devices like the T-Mobile G2 or the Dell Streak etc.
Is this really Android running on the HTC HD7? We'll let you be the judge until it is officially confirmed but the video is promising. Folks @ XDA.cn have managed to run Android on the HTC HD7 which is a Windows Phone 7 device, this is quite an achievement and on top of that it does seem to run smoothly. See the video after the break.

SIM unlocking your smartphone allows you to use it on any network (AT&T phone on T-Mobile, SFR phone on Orange network etc.). sanfranx415 @ XDA found the unlock code for the Samsung Galaxy S 4G on T-Mobile, this hack requires a rooted device and an hex editor and will allow you to use your Samsung Galaxy S 4G on any carrier.
The Motorola Xoom, the first Android Honeycomb tablet, is finally available in its Wi-Fi only version and soon after its release the Wi-Fi only version of the Motorola Xoom has been rooted. Overall the process is quite simple thanks to Xaositek and the rest of the XDA folks who worked on this.
The HTC Thunderbolt is a powerful Android device, while its CPU is not a dual-core one it feels snappy thanks to its Snapdragon CPU clocked at 1 GHz. Of course, like many other Android devices it has now been overclocked! richardtrip @ XDA released a new custom kernel which overclocks the CPU to 1.76 GHz, users reports Quadrant scores in the 2900 and Linpack in the high fifties (58-59).
The LG Optimus 2X is the first dual-core Android smartphone, it uses the NVidia Tegra 2 CPU clocked at 1 GHz. It also comes with a 4 inches touchscreen, an 8 megapixel camera and Android 2.2. The LG Optimus 2X has been released in South Korea in January and has now reached Europe, the folks at MoDaCo have already found a way to root / jailbreak it.
