The Motorola Photon is a speedy device out of the box with its NVidia Tegra 2 CPU clocked at 1 GHz, it is also a 4G device which helps you use the Internet faster in most places. 1 GHz is nice but 1.2 GHz or more is better and thanks to jokersax11 @ XDA we now have the option to install a custom kernel on the Motorola Photon which overclocks it at 1.2 GHz. And this is just a start as the developer intends to increase the speed to 1.4 GHz and more.

This custom kernel (test-kernel1.2ocWIFI.zip) is a proof of concept for now but a couple of users have already tested it successfully so why not give it a try. Quadrant scores are higher than 3000 with this custom kernel.
A 1.3 GHz overclock kernel is coming very soon or may actually have been already released by the time this article went live.
Installing a custom kernel requires root privileges, check out our article @ Root Your Motorola Photon 4G – How To to root / jailbreak your Motorola Photon 4G device.
You can find more information about this custom overclock kernel for the Motorola Photon on XDA @ [kernel] 1.2 overclock kernel rev1 WIFI WORKS.
Note that there is also another kernel which can overclock your Motorola Photon device to up to 1.1 GHz: the Photon-Penguins kernel. Find out more about it on XDA @ [ACS][Kernel] Photon-Penguins RC2.
