The Toshiba Thrive is one of the latest Android Honeycomb tablet, it sports very similar technical specs as many of the recent Android tablets: NVidia Tegra 2 CPU, 10-inch touchscreen, Honeycomb 3.1 etc. What sets it apart from some other tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for example is its price but it is also bulkier than the iPad or Galaxy Tab. While the Toshiba Thrive came out recently you can already root it easily. More information after the break.

dalepl @ XDA created a couple of custom scripts for Windows, Mac and Linux to root / jailbreak easily the Toshiba Thrive tablet. You will need to make sure your Toshiba Thrive version is 0029 otherwise this will break your Wi-Fi connection… you’ve been warned.
The download and install instructions are available on thriveforums:
  • For Linux/MAC: Thrive_Easy_Root_Tool_Linux
  • For Windows/DOS: Thrive_Easy_Root_Tool_DOS
Those scripts will help you root your Toshiba Thrive tablet as well as unroot it if necessary. It can also install CWM (ClockWork Mod recovery)
The installation instructions are very simple [Windows from Thrive_Easy_Root_Tool_DOS]:
1. Unzip the file into a directory of your choice.
2. Read the readme file. It has instructions for installing the ADB drivers.
3. Open a DOS command screen.
  • To root the device, run the DOS batch script root.bat located in the thrive_easy_root_dos_v0.2-rc1 directory
  • To unroot the device, run the DOS batch script unroot.bat located in the thrive_easy_root_dos_v0.2-rc1 directory. NOTE: If you are going to unroot your device to install an over-the-air update, be sure to undo any mods you have installed (ex. adhoc, NetFlix, etc).
4. Follow the screen prompts. Enjoy.
