If you got a brand new Honeycomb tablet like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Lenovo IdeaPad K1 or the Asus Eee Pad Transformer and you wonder which apps you should install on your tablet then this article is for you. There is a lot of buzz on the web regarding the low number of Honeycomb apps and let me tell you there are in fact many apps available for it and their number is increasing everyday. But it’s fair to say that browsing the Market to find tablet optimized apps can be tricky… hopefully Google will make it easier soon but until then let’s have a look at a couple of apps optimized for Honeycomb.

News
We recommend the CNN app (Android Market Link) which runs perfectly on Honeycomb and is well designed for tablets. Pulse News (Android Market Link) is also a great way to access your news feeds and also works well on an Android tablet. See the video below which walks you through both the CNN and Pulse apps:

Facebook
Many of you will want to access Facebook on their tablets and let’s put it this way: the Facebook Android app is not optimized for tablets… so you have to use your browser or a third party app. We recommend an app called Friend Me (Android Market Link). Friend Me is a great way to keep in touch with your friends on your tablet. Note that this app has some limitations: you cannot send messages for example (at this time).

Games
There are a couple of games you can try to showcase the power of your Android tablet, we like: Riptide GP, Samurai II: Vengeance or Pinball HD. Otherwise the non-tablet optimized games will also work perfectly on your tablet like Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies etc.

Comic Book Reader
Komik Reader (Android Market Link) is a great comic / manga viewer and displays nicely all the CBZ/CBR files we tried on it. Personally I think it works better than Perfect Viewer but you’ll be the judge:

There is free app and you can also buy the full app to support the developer. See also: XDA thread.
This is the end of our first look at some Honeycomb optimized apps, we’ll be back with more soon!
