Kyocera just released the Android Froyo (2.2) source code for the Sanyo / Kyocera Zio device, this is a good news for Sprint or Cricket customers. We can now expect custom ROMs to be available soon and of course you will want to jailbreak / root your Sanyo Zio to benefit from any future developments. Check out the instructions after the break.

Please note that we will not be responsible if you end up bricking your device. Rooting or customizing your device can be risky, if you follow the instructions you should be fine!

The Sanyo / Kyocera Zio can be rooted / jailbroken very easily in one single click using Universal Androot. To root your device, simply follow these instructions:
  • Download Universal Androot apk file (UniversalAndroot-1.6.2-beta5.apk) @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747598
  • Then copy it to your Sanyo Zio
  • Install Universal Androot using your favorite File Manager like Astro
  • Run Universal Androot and follow the instructions on your screen (see below), it cannot get easier than that! image
