The HTC Thunderbolt is a brand new 4G smartphone on Verizon and while 4G can be great it does also decrease your battery life and may interfere with your 3G connection. Somehow Verizon and HTC did not include a widget to switch off 4G / LTE on the HTC Thunderbolt but as usual someone found a way to disable it.

cdunn05 @ AndroidCentral was able to turn on or off LTE on the HTC Thunderbolt.
