We have seen in the past that it was possible to install Android on the iPhone or iPod Touch and now it is even possible to install Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread on an iPhone 2G, 3G or an iPod Touch 1G. This is a preview release coming from the iDroid Project team. Let’s check it out.

This release will only work on an iPhone 2G, 3G or an iPod Touch 1G and requires a jailbroken device. You can have a look at some of our articles like Jailbreak iOS 4.1 with limera1n for iPhone, iPad and iPod or Jailbreak your iPhone and iPad with JailbreakMe.

You can see Android Gingerbread booting on an iPhone in the following video (starts at 1:40):

If you’d like to give it a shot on your iPhone or iPod Touch, follow the instructions @ http://www.idroidproject.org/forum/announcements/idroid-11-01-pepparkaka-release-announcement-%28gingerbread-preview-release%29/.

Some users have reported this Gingerbread port for the iPhone or iPod Touch is working fine.
