The HTC EVO Shift 4G is the newest 4G phone for Sprint, it has just been released in the US and it has already been rooted… only temporarily (temproot) but a full root procedure will most likely come soon. The HTC EVO Shift 4G is a nice device with a physical keyboard, a 3.6 inch touchscreen, 512 Mb of RAM and a 800 MHz CPU.

Please note that we won't be responsible if you end up bricking your device. Rooting your device can be risky, if you follow the instructions you should be fine!

Update (02/01/11): You can now root the HTC EVO Shift 4G permanently, look @ How To Root Permanently Your HTC EVO Sift 4G

Having temporary root privileges is far from ideal but it allows you to run apps that require root privileges like Wireless Tethering (Wi-Fi Hotspot), Root Explorer etc. so there is still some value in doing it if you own a HTC EVO Shift 4G.

You can see an HTC EVO Shift 4G in action in this video from Wirefly:

The HTC EVO Shift 4G can be rooted temporarily using VISIONary, an application that helped root many other HTC devices. Unfortunately VISIONary has been removed from the Android Market but you can still find it @ MoDaCo: http://android.modaco.com/content/software/320350/19-nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/

Note that z4root also provides temproot access, if you want more information about it go to z4root – Another One Click Root Solution for Android.

The unrevoked team is already working on providing a full root solution for this device.
