Backbreaker Football is a Football (American Football) game which was released recently on Android, it has also been available for iOS devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) for quite a while. Interestingly the company behind Backbreaker: NaturalMotion creates physics engine for video gaming sysems, their engines are behind games like Red Dead Redemption or Grand Theft Auto IV, pretty good references! Let’s have a look at Backbreaker Football.

In this game you control a football player which has to avoid being tackled by the opposite team on a football field. It’s an arcade game so you can juke, spin, sprint etc. it is incredibly easy to control and the game feels quite rewarding when you avoid nicely a tackle.

You can get a better idea of what Backbreaker Football is about in the video below:

Pros

  • Great 3D graphics
  • Superb player animation, the physics engine is top notch
  • Simple gameplay using the phone accelerometer

Cons

  • Repetitive: one wave after the other… I guess you can expect it for this kind of game but at this price point it’s okay
  • Sound effects are just okay

Final: 7/10

Backbreaker Football is a very enjoyable game, the controls are simple yet quite precise and while it gets repetitive we had a great time playing it.

You can get Backbreaker Football for $0.99 on the App Store or on the Android Market for $2.99.
