There are many applications available to customize the look and feel of your Android device, in fact there are so many that it can be quite time consuming to find good ones. To make it easier for you we are going to have a look at some of the best applications out there for Android that will modify your home screen, your lock screen etc. Today we start with Launcher Pro a home screen replacement for Android.
The HTC Glacier or T-Mobile myTouch 4G is the first 4G device released for T-Mobile USA HSPA+ network. The myTouch 4G is a slick device running Android 2.2 and up until recently you could only root it temporarily using VISIONary but thanks to the XDA community there is now a way to permanently root (permaroot) your myTouch 4G.
We have seen many times that Android could be installed anywhere and while it has been possible to install Android on an iPhone for quite a while now it just got easier thanks to the iDroid folks. Bootlace makes it very easy, it is an iOS application that helps you install iDroid and OpeniBoot on your iPhone, it even enables you to boot directly into the mobile OS of your choice: iOS or Android.
Archos has been producing tablets and media player for quite a while. They have started releasing Android tablets back in 2009 and their latest tablets look really promising: Android 2.2 (soon), lighter than the iPad, 10 inches display for the Archos 101, front facing camera for only $299… not bad! Well the bad part is that it comes with their own version of Android Market but as usual there is a way to work around it.
Thanks to the folks @ XDA it is now possible to permanently root your HTC Desire HD. Up until now all we could do was to get temporary root access on this device. This hack will jailbreak your HTC Desire HD and allow you to do anything you want on it, check out the instructions after the break.
We’ve been covering Co0kie’s Home Tab (CHT) for a little while and this past week Co0kieMonster released the final version of CHT: v2.0.0. CHT 2.0 is a complete rewrite over the old versions and comes packed with many enhancements. Co0kie’s Home Tab is HTC Sense 2.5 modification which adds tons of features to HTC Sense and Windows Mobile.
The LG Optimus S was just released on Sprint and it was rooted on day one by KSmithInNY from the Android Central Forums. The LG Optimus S is a low cost Android 2.2 device with a 600MHz CPU and a 3.2-inch touch screen, not too bad for a phone that costs $49.99 with a 2-year contract and a mail-in rebate. With the release of Windows Phone 7 it’s good to see that Windows Mobile is still getting some love and that the XDA developers are still working on new apps for it. petititi is working on a new application called WinStart which is a replacing the stock Start Menu of Windows Mobile. What sets it apart are the new animations included with the Start Menu replacement.
Homerun Battle 3D is another game from Com2uS the developer behind a couple of games including Heavy Gunner which we reviewed in September. In Homerun Battle 3D you take control of a batter in a baseball game, all you have to do is to make sure you hit the ball and try to do a homerun. Homerun Battle 3D is now available for the iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
HD Video recording is a feature that so far has been reserved to the iPhone 4 but it appears that the iPhone 3GS is capable of HD Video recording but Apple decided not to enable it. Mike Pan was able to enable this feature and an application called ‘HD Video Enabler for 3GS’ is now available on Cydia.
The T-Mobile G2 didn’t have a permanent root until now, thanks to scotty2 @ XDA we now have a permanent solution. We will have just have to wait a little bit until we can install custom ROMs on the G2 but we can be sure it’s coming!
The Nexus One is mostly a developer device and it usually gets tons of new Android ROMs etc. but recently Mitsutaka a Japanese developer was able to port an entirely new OS: Meego to the Nexus One! Meego is a Linux based mobile operating system like Android and it is a joint development effort between Intel and Nokia.
This could potentially be big, some folks @ XDA.cn have been apparently been able to boot Windows Phone 7 the latest mobile Operating System from Microsoft on the HTC HD2 which was until now running Windows Mobile 6.5. There aren’t many details about the port of Windows Phone 7 for the HTC HD2 yet but check out the video after the break.
Rooting Android devices becomes easier and easier everyday with applications like unrevoked or Universal Androot. Today we are looking at SuperOneClick which is another one-click root solution for many Android devices, it was originally designed to root the Samsung Captivate running Android 2.2 (aka Froyo) but it also works on the Nexus One, Motorola Droid etc.

The folks at @ Modaco who brought us VISIONary a temporary root solution for the T-Mobile G2 have now been able to temporarily root the HTC Desire HD using the same VISIONary application. VISIONary is extremely simple to use and it is now available on the Android Market.
