The Motorola Droid 2 has now been officially rooted! It didn’t take long as usual, the Android community is extremely active these days and devices are rooted right after their release or even prior to their release. karnovaran @ XDA Developers released the rooting process, read the instructions after the break.
chaluxedeluxe @ AndroidCentral liked the Android 2.2 (Froyo) lock screen so much that he decided to release it for Android 2.1 (Eclair). Apparently the Froyo build for the Motorola Droid X isn’t quite ready for prime time yet so for those of you still running Android 2.1 on your Droid X you can still enjoy the new Froyo lock screen. The iPhone has the Retina Display which is incredibly crisp but it would be even better if it was possible to display Live Wallpapers on your iPhone screen like on Android devices. Well this is now possible on a jailbroken iPhone 4 thanks to vWallpaper!
The Motorola Droid X is already quite fast out of the box but thanks to Elkay @ DroidForums it is now possible to overclock your device to at least 1.2 GHz! Different users have reported that their device was stable at 1.1 or 1.2 GHz which gives a significant performance boost to the Verizon Droid X.
TGA_Gunnman @ XDA released an application that will root or unroot your Samsung Galaxy S (AT&T Captivate) in just one click. This program works on Windows or Mac and greatly simplify the rooting process for this new Android device. What are you waiting for ;)
Tumys @ XDA has released a cool application called SenseTasks for Windows Mobile which aims at replacing the stock Windows Mobile Task application and has a HTC Sense look and feel. SenseTasks is completely finger friendly, is integrated with CHT 1.8.5 and translated in multiple languages.
The Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S) is already one of the fastest Android device out there but RyanZA @ XDA has managed to improve its disk I/O performance by creating a virtual EXT2 filesystem inside the RFS filesystem the Samsung Captivate SD Card ships with… quite technical and quite impressive as well!
We have seen recently Ubuntu running on some Android devices like the HTC EVO or the Nexus One and it is now also possible to run your favorite Linux distribution on the HTC HD2. The HTC Linux team has ported a fully functional version of Ubuntu with touch screen support which is really nice. Follow the instructions after the break!
The folks behind unrevoked did it again! They have now released ‘unrevoked forever’ which basically unlocks your HTC EVO or HTC Droid Incredible forever ;) You can get OTA updates and your device will remain rooted. Don’t you love your Android phone!
Android is a really flexible platform and hackers are having fun pushing devices running the Android OS to their limits! blackjackboy @ XDA just released a custom kernel for the Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S) overclocked to 1.2 GHz. The Samsung Captivate was already fast thanks to its 1GHz Hummingbird CPU now it is even faster.
It has been a few weeks since we last wrote an article about rooting an Android device! So today let’s talk about the Motorola Devour, one of the latest Android device from Motorola, which has been rooted recently using a method similar to the one used with the Motorola Droid X.
NetRipper @ XDA recently released an application called Msm7kCpuSpeed which allows you to overclock or underclock many HTC devices running on Windows Mobile. Devices like the HTC Touch Pro 2 or the HTC Touch Diamond can now be set to use 710MHz instead of their default CPU speed which is 528MHz.
