Android 2.1 for Sprint HTC Hero Leaked Sprint Samsung Moment owners got an Android 2.1 update last week but the Sprint HTC Hero owners still have to wait for an official update… For the most adventurous Android 2.1 for the HTC Hero has been leaked and can now be installed on your device.

Again this is for the Sprint HTC Hero not for any other HTC Hero devices, double-check before running the update as you may brick your device. You’ve been warned!

To install this update follow these steps:

  1. As usual backup anything you’d like to keep on your device.
  2. Connect your phone to your computer using an USB cable.
  3. Download the file @ http://www.4shared.com/file/gfPzbRcS/RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2276515_R_si.html
  4. Run the RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.27.651.5_R_signed_release.exe utility to flash your Sprint HTC Hero with the Android 2.1 update.

Many users have reported:

  • a better battery life
  • some Android Marketplace issues
  • Voice Control has been improved
  • Android Marketplace has been updated
  • new Navigator and Maps
  • no lag when using the Phone dialer (nice!)
  • no Live Wallpapers

This update is a signed release and isn’t rooted so you will lose the ability to use custom ROMs on it until you can root your device again.
