In this article we'll explain how to unlock your HTC Diamond 2. Unlocking your phone will let you replace the stock ROM with a custom ROM. A custom ROM brings many advantages like the ability to run the latest unreleased Windows Mobile builds (6.5.x for now and who knows maybe Windows Phone 7 when a build will be available), it also typically makes your phone faster, less buggy and adds additional software to tweak your phone.

Note that I won't be responsible if you end up bricking your phone, unlocking or flashing your ROM can be risky. If you follow the instructions then you will be fine.

This article is not about a SIM Unlocker. For more information about SIM Unlocking for the HTC Diamond 2 go to the following website: http://topaz.htc-unlocks.com/

Requirements:

- HTC Topaz / Diamond 2 or AT&T Pure (GSM from any carrier - NOT FOR CDMA if any), it shouldn't be in Airplane/Flight mode (ie phone should be ON).
- Hard-SPL package for your phone (Topaz-HardSPL_V5_00R5_183HSPL.zip at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520312).
- your phone should be already configured with your computer and be able to sync with it through ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows Vista or Windows 7).
- Internet connection as the program will check for updates online and verify your license.
This HSPL package works fine on Windows XP 32-bit and 64-bit as well as Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Instructions:

Make sure you download the right Hard-SPL package from a forum or website and extract the zip file to a folder on your hard drive. To find the correct HSPL package, go to this XDA forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520312
I am sure you can also find those files elsewhere, when I wrote this article the file was called Topaz-HardSPL_V5_00R5_183HSPL.zip.

Now connect your phone to your computer using your USB cable, select Active Sync in the menu on your phone not Disk Drive.

Go to the directory where you extracted the HSPL package and run the exe file (Topaz-HardSPL_V5_00R5.exe), you'll need to execute it in Administrator mode.
When the V500R Topaz Hard-SPL program opens up, click on the Flash Hard-SPL (Automatic flash) button to start the flashing process.

There is a manual mode that should be used only if something went wrong while using the Automatic mode.
Follow the instructions displayed on the Hard-SPL program, make sure you pick the Automatic mode when prompted.

Press OK when the program mentions it is going to prepare the flashing process.
Your HTC Diamond 2 should go in bootloader mode and display a tricolor screen, no worries this is normal.
The Rom Update Utility will kick off, simply wait for it to be done, be patient!
It should take less 5 minutes even so it displays it can last 10 minutes and it won't do an hard reset of your device.
Your phone will automatically reboot and you should be done with the unlocking!

Go into bootloader mode to make sure it is unlocked:
Soft reset your device and press and hold the volume down button (left side of device) until you see the bootloader / tricolor screen then release the volume button.

If everything worked ok, you should see 1.83.OliNex (current version at this time), your phone is now ready to be flashed with a custom ROM.

Note: It is possible to relock your phone if you have to send it back.
