As you may already know the latest Android 2.0 phone, the Motorola Droid, is adding turn-by-turn navigation to Google Maps. This is an awesome feature that we've all been waiting for! Now users of T-Mobile G-1 can also get it using this little hack.
Note that I won't be responsible if you end up bricking your phone, flashing your ROM can be risky. If you follow the instructions then you will be fine!
There are several ways to get it to work:
- use a custom ROM for the G1: here is a link that you can use to download it. It uses Dwang 1.12 and has Google Maps Navigation and the Facebook app from the Droid cooked in.
This is probably the easiest way to get it to work, as usual back up everything just to be safe.
- customize your phone, you can find more information about it here. This hack requires CyanogenMod 4.2.3.1. All the files are included in the link given above.
- another hack for Android 1.6 only can be found here. You will need to download Google Voice from the Android Market prior to using it.
