In this article I'll explain how to unlock your HTC Touch Pro 2. Unlocking your phone will let you replace the stock ROM with a custom ROM. A custom ROM brings many advantages like the ability to run Windows Mobile 6.5.1 (not even released yet), it also typically makes your phone faster, less buggy and add additional software to tweak your phone.
Note that I won't be responsible if you end up bricking your phone, unlocking or flashing your ROM can be risky. If you follow the instructions then you will be fine.
This article is not about a SIM Unlocker. For more information about SIM Unlocking for a Touch Pro 2 go to the following website: http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/
Requirements:
- HTC Touch Pro 2 (from Sprint and others), it shouldn't be in Airplane mode (ie phone should be ON).
- Hard-SPL package for your phone (http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/hard-spl.php).
- your phone should be already configured with your computer and be able to sync with it through ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows Vista or Windows 7).
- internet connection as the program will check for updates online and verify your license.
Instructions:
Make sure you download the right Hard-SPL package from a forum or website and extract the zip file to a folder on your hard drive.
To find the correct HSPL package, go to this forum: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=93252 or at http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/hard-spl.php.
I am sure you can also find those files elsewhere, when I wrote this article the file was called RhodiumW-HardSPL_V1_01R2_100HSPL_Release.zip.
Now connect your phone to your computer using your USB cable, select Active Sync in the menu on your phone not Disk Drive.
Go to the directory where you extracted the HSPL package and run the exe file (RhodiumW-HardSPL_V1_01R2.exe), you'll need to run the file in Administrator mode.
Select the Automatic Flash mode, pick Manual Flash mode only if you experienced issues with the Automatic mode. Press OK when prompted.
Your device should display a black screen which is normal and only temporary.
The Rom Update Utility will kick off, simply wait for it to be done, be patient!
It should take less 5 minutes.
Your phone will automatically reboot and you should be done with the unlocking!
Go into bootloader mode to make sure it is unlocked:
While the device is booting up or with the device turned on, press and hold the volume down button along with the power button, then press the reset button with the stylus tip, then release the volume down and power buttons only when bootloader tricolour screen appears.
Your device will then go to a tricolour screen similar to this one taken on a HTC Touch Pro version 1:

If everything worked ok, you should see 1.00.OliNex (current version at this time), your phone is ready to be flashed with a custom ROM.
Note: It is possible to relock your phone if you have to send it back.
