In this article I'll explain how to unlock your Sprint HTC Touch Pro, this should also work for any HTC Touch Pro from any carrier.
I liked my Sprint stock ROM with TouchFlo but wanted to try the new Windows Mobile 6.5 so I took the plunge and I don't regret it at all!!
Unlocking your phone will let you replace the stock ROM with a custom ROM. A custom ROM brings many advantages like the ability to run Windows Mobile 6.5 (not even released yet), it also typically makes your phone faster, less buggy and add additional software to tweak your phone.
Note that I won't be responsible if you end up bricking your phone, unlocking or flashing your ROM can be risky. If you follow the instructions then you should be fine.
Requirements:
- HTC Touch Pro (from Sprint and others).
- Hard-SPL package for your phone (see below for some forums where you can find the packages).
- your phone should be already configured with your computer and be able to sync with it through ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista).
Instructions:
Make sure you download the right Hard-SPL package from a forum or website and extract the zip file to a folder on your hard drive.
To find the correct HSPL package, go to this forum: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=42503
I am sure you can also find those files elsewhere, I have a Sprint phone so I downloaded a file called Raphael_CDMA_HSPL_037.zip.
Now connect your phone to your computer, select Active Sync in the menu on your phone not Disk Drive.
Go to the directory where you extracted the HSPL package and run the exe file (Raphael_CDMA_HSPL_037.exe for Sprint) and follow the steps on your computer screen and on your phone. You will see a progress bar, just wait for it to reach 100%, be patient!
Your device will then go a tricolour screen similar to this one:

Your phone is in bootloader mode, you'll need to go back to it before flashing it.
If everything worked ok, you should see SPL-0.37.CMONEX for a Sprint, Alltel, Telus or Bell phone. On a Verizon phone you'll see SPL-0.25.CMONEX.
Your phone will automatically reboot and you should be done with the unlocking!
Go into bootloader mode to make sure it is unlocked:
While the device is booting up or with the device turned on, press and hold the volume down button along with the power button, then press the reset button with the stylus tip, then release the volume down and power buttons when bootloader tricolour screen appears.
If you see CMONEX in your bootloader screen you're all set and your phone is ready to be flashed.
Note: It is possible to relock a phone if you have to send it back.
I'll explain how to flash a custom ROM on your phone in another post.
